Bars and Nightlife in Jerusalem
Jerusalem at night is not the city of the day. The market empties of crates and reopens as a bar district behind painted shutters; the centre keeps going midweek. 47 bars by neighbourhood, with who is open on Shabbat, who is kosher, and who closes after midnight.

Questions people ask
Where do people go out at night in Jerusalem?
Two centres, and they feel nothing alike. Machane Yehuda market turns into a bar district once the stalls close — the same lanes, now behind graffiti shutters with music. The city centre around Nahalat Shiv'a, Hillel and Shamai streets is older and more varied, and busy midweek too. The First Station is the quieter option; the German Colony has bars with tables outside.
Is anything open in Jerusalem on Friday night and Shabbat?
Yes, but fewer places than in Tel Aviv, and almost all of them non-kosher: a kosher certificate requires closing from Friday sundown to Saturday night. The bars that stay open cluster in the city centre and the market. Kosher bars reopen about an hour after Shabbat ends — anywhere from 18:15 in winter to 21:15 in summer. Each bar below is marked.
When is Jerusalem nightlife busiest?
Thursday, by a wide margin — the Israeli weekend starts Thursday night. Friday night is quiet, and Saturday night picks up only after Shabbat ends, which is late in summer.
How late do bars stay open?
Later than the city's reputation suggests. A good number close between 02:00 and 04:00, a few at 05:00, and Thursday is the latest night. The list below shows each bar's latest closing time as the bar itself publishes it.
Are there clubs in Jerusalem?
Very few in the Tel Aviv sense. Parties here mostly happen inside bars — a DJ in the corner rather than a thousand-person floor — and the weekly nights section lists the ones that repeat every week.
