Eli Mizrachi travelled widely, saw this model of bars and restaurants inside the markets themselves, and thought to bring it to Mahane Yehuda, which is also a kind of home to him. They opened the place in 2002, and although this was during the hardest years of the bombings in Jerusalem — at family meetings everyone was against it — Eli understood that if the market was to live it needed a new clientele, because the old customers were slowly passing away. His vision was to open more businesses that would bring a different crowd: young people, families, students. In the years he chaired the market traders' committee he worked to improve the site's infrastructure and to brand it as a lively, young place.
