Menachem's grandfather came to the country in 1928 and was a caretaker at the Alliance school; he sold cold drinks (sus) from a jarra in the market. Menachem's father was born in 1929, and Ezra — Ezura — started working in the market with the cart in 1947, selling tamarind (from India), lemonade, apricot and so on. In 1963 he bought the shop and carried on selling the same natural drinks. Today Menachem continues in their footsteps, selling exactly the same things — tamarind, mint, apricot and lemon — with recipes the family keeps secret. There are also borekas and hot drinks. Menachem's son Ezra sometimes comes to help, but Menachem does not want him to carry it on; he believes the secret will carry on regardless.
