Akramawi Hummus – Musrara

Akramawi Hummus (also spelled Ikermawi) is a small family hummus place on HaNevi'im Street in Musrara, right opposite Damascus Gate. It is open on Shabbat and serves a greenish hummus pounded in a mortar. Parsley and freshly squeezed lemon are pounded in an old mortar and give the hummus its green tint, and it comes with pita, green peppers and pickles. On the side you can add falafel stuffed with sumac and hot sauce. The family has been making hummus for more than seventy years to a Syrian recipe, and the business is now in its third generation. Open every day including Shabbat, from 06:00 until around midday, so it is best to come in the morning. The place is small and payment is cash only.
