Via Glucosa — A Sweet Tour of the Old City
Guided tour in Jerusalem
This tour is guided in Hebrew, not in English. See the tours that run in English.
A tasting tour of the Old City led by Esther Saad — three and a half hours of sweets and pastries. It starts with coffee and cake on the most European street in the Old City, then moves on to the iconic cakes: Jacques the pâtissier's carrot cake, Abu Sir's plum cake, and Viennese strudel in the blooming garden of the Austrian Hospice — and from there up to the view from the roof. Then the world of baklava and knafeh with the specialists — Mouawad, Asch al-Bulbul and Burma — ending at the best knafeh in the city. Along the way: a spice shop where you learn the exact blend for ma'amoul, a bakery with a traditional salt oven that bakes yasuniyeh cookies and ka'ak helu, cold drinks such as tamarind and almond milk, and finally an old family-run sesame mill. The tour is limited to 20 participants.
