"Shirat HaMaftirim" is a tradition of supplications and hymns sung to Ottoman melodies among the Jews of Turkey, dating back to the 16th century. In this show, six musicians specializing in Ottoman music perform for the first time little-known piyyutim (liturgical poems) reconstructed from music collections compiled in Istanbul about a hundred years ago. With vocals and ney, qanun, tanbur, double bass, percussion and more, under the musical direction of Yoram Arnon, with introductory remarks by Prof. Edwin Seroussi.
