Damascus Gate
Free entryOpen on Shabbat
The grandest of the Old City gates — built in its present form under Suleiman the Magnificent in 1537, above the remains of a Roman gate from the time of Hadrian. Busy on both sides: outside, the crowded stepped plaza; inside, the start of the Muslim Quarter market. An excellent starting point for a walk around the city.
