By Federico García Lorca Translation: Rivka Meshulach Directed by: Ido Kolton Music: Noy Kleiman Cast: Efrat Ben-Tzur, Michal Weinberg / Irit Bendek, Tali Osadchy, Karin Seruya / Carmel Kandel, Dar Rosenbaum, Nicole Podvalny, Ofir Zweigenbaum, Noa Carmi and Lilian Shelly Ruth When Bernarda's husband dies, she declares eight years of mourning and shuts her five daughters inside their house. In the name of morality, honour and family unity, the house that was supposed to protect them becomes a prison. Violence disguises itself as order, and oppression as protection from the terror of the world outside; but not all the daughters are willing to accept it. Federico García Lorca was considered a dangerous figure because of his liberal views, his criticism of the regime and his homosexuality. The play was written in 1936. Two months later its author was executed, and his burial place remains unknown. The play was first staged only in 1945, and has since become a world classic. The production uses a cigarette-like stage prop The production is surtitled in Hebrew and Russian Second show for subscribers of the Nivcharim series
