Course: The Last Portrait

Paris, 1946. The renowned painter Giacometti, at the height of his popularity, earns huge sums for his works, hides the money in his studio, and spends more time with his mistress than with his angry wife. When American critic James Lord arrives at the studio to sit as a model for a portrait, the work, which should take about a week, drags on, partly because of frequent visits to the local bistro and long drives in the car. Directed by Stanley Tucci and starring Geoffrey Rush, the film portrays one of Europe's best-known and best-loved artists about two years before his death, with all his strengths and weaknesses, the chaos, the doubt and the urges: a genius at work.
