Buenos Aires, November 2001. Argentina is in a deep economic crisis and the people's distrust of their corrupt government keeps growing. A five-member tango band tries to keep its head above water with gigs at a small pub and pay that is sometimes given in empanadas instead of pesos... The band's leader, Julio, struggles to watch his beloved country fall apart and secretly plans to emigrate to Europe. In an act of survival, the band sets out to find the celebrated tango singer Ricardo Tortorella, who retired long ago. The aging star, with his beautiful, heart-melting voice, is won over by the band's moving playing and joins it as lead singer. Everything is turned upside down when the government freezes all bank accounts overnight and sparks of protest ignite across the city. A moving, sweeping film accompanied by Argentina's undisputed star – the tango.
