For decades, while prejudice prevented Jewish immigrants from fully integrating into American society, the 'Borscht Belt' in the Catskill Mountains became a space of acceptance and belonging, with Grossinger's Hotel and Resort standing at its heart. Far more than the true inspiration for the iconic 1987 film Dirty Dancing, Grossinger's offered New Yorkers a physical and spiritual refuge from the city's oppressive atmosphere. As its prestige grew, the resort became a cultural crossroads hosting legendary figures from Jackie Robinson to Eleanor Roosevelt. Through the lens of award-winning filmmaker Paula Eiselt, this lost era comes alive in a vivid, intimate, and sweeping way. The result is a moving tribute to the richness of Jewish heritage and a celebration of its deep and lasting impact on the American story.
