In recent years Erdoğan's Turkey has become a central player on the geopolitical stage. The lecture will look at Turkey today, at Erdoğan's policies and at the country's ambition to establish itself as an independent regional power. We will examine its relations with Russia, the United States and Europe, its involvement in the Middle East and Syria, and its place in the changing international system. We will also ask how the Ottoman past, Turkish identity and Erdoğan's vision shape Turkey's policy today. About the lecturer: Dr. Hay Eytan Cohen Yanarocak is an expert on Turkish affairs at the Moshe Dayan Center for Middle Eastern and African Studies at Tel Aviv University and at the Jerusalem Institute for Strategy and Security. Dr. Cohen Yanarocak received his doctorate from the School of History at Tel Aviv University and today lectures at the same institution and at Shalem College in Jerusalem.
