InterContinental Jerusalem — What We Know About the New Hotel on King George, So Far

10 September 2026

IHG is bringing its flagship brand to Jerusalem, and after years of construction on the corner of King George Street opposite Independence Park, it is becoming clear what will stand there: the InterContinental Jerusalem, 17 floors and 237 rooms and suites.

When it opens — and the answer is less clear than it seems

The date published today is late 2026. Worth knowing: earlier announcements spoke of April 2026, and even Jerusalem's official tourism site currently shows both dates on the same page — the headline says the end of the year and the text below it still says April.

April has already passed. We are assuming the current date is late 2026, and we will update this page as soon as there is an official announcement with a date.

Exactly where

47 King George Street, at the northern end of the street, above Independence Park.

Anyone who knows the corner knows exactly which plot this is. It is an especially good spot for a visitor: walking distance to the city centre, walking distance to the Great Synagogue and Heichal Shlomo, and a reasonable walk to the gates of the Old City. Independence Park is right below — it is rare for a city hotel in Jerusalem to sit on a green lung.

What will be inside

  • L18 — a rooftop restaurant with a panoramic view over the city
  • Memoire — a French chef's restaurant
  • A spa, a gym, and a heated indoor pool with a sun deck on the terrace
  • An events hall for up to 500 people

The audience the hotel is aimed at, according to the chain: luxury tourism, business travellers and diplomatic delegations.

What isn't known yet

  • Room rates. Not published, and bookings haven't opened.
  • Whether the restaurants will open to the public, and not only to hotel guests. At most of the city's luxury hotels the answer is yes, at least for the rooftop, but here it hasn't been said.
  • Kashrut. No decision has been announced.
  • An exact opening date.

Why it matters beyond a hotel room

A rooftop restaurant on the 17th floor on King George Street is a new viewpoint over Jerusalem — and in a city where almost every rooftop open to the public is in the city centre or the Old City, it is an angle that didn't exist. If L18 opens to the public, it will join a very short list.

What it looks like now

The photo above is ours, from August 2026. The building is already up and clad in stone, the balconies are installed and the ground-floor glass façade is in place. What remains is the interior — which fits an opening at the end of the year, not an April that has already gone.

This page will be updated with the opening date, prices and the restaurants' admission policy as soon as they are published.
